It’ll never happen to us...

RKE Associates has acknowledged the need and is poised to tackle a growing number of new and increasingly pervasive threats to industry.    You may be surprised to read the facts.

You’d be shocked if up to 40% of your dealing room staff regularly “chased the dragon” wouldn’t you…

You’d be disappointed if your currency dealers only operated at 67% capacity because of the “speed” last night…

You’d be amazed to discover why some staff take more time off than others.  It could be for a “cracking” good reason...

Surprised?  You shouldn’t be; 40% of the population under 35 regularly misuse drugs.  A typical drug user’s profile was described by Time Magazine as operating at only 67% work capacity, nearly four times more likely to be involved in a traffic accident, ten times more likely to take time off work through illness than non user colleagues and very likely to be involved in disciplinary proceedings, grievance and compensation claims.

But I shredded the only copy of that document after we discussed it so how can it have been leaked to the Press…

Nothing has been written down.  We’ve only ever discussed it between ourselves when no one else has been present…

They seem to have our entire customer contact list which can only have come from our secure database…

Surprised?  You shouldn’t be; disaffected employees, direct overhearing of conversations, contents of waste bins, inadequate shredding of classified documents and electronic eavesdropping all contribute to critical information loss.

But we thought the problems in Ecuador were over.  We sent him in without any briefing.  We thought he’d enjoy the break…

Well of course we’ll pay the ransom.  We need to be sure it’s him first but of course we’ll pay…

He was a volunteer you know; happiest away on assignment; sand between his toes.  We shall miss him dreadfully…

Surprised?  You shouldn’t be; most executives leave home without any detailed travel briefing or risk assessment.  Most prefer to rely upon their own instinct and local contacts.  Quite often kidnappers send fingers or ears through the post with their ransom demands.

Welcome to PM with Eddie Mair.  Rumours have circulated all day concerning one of the City’s most respected financiers…

Good Evening, this is the World Tonight with Ritula Shah.  News is breaking of several high level resignations…

Good Morning from Today with John Humphrys and Sarah Montague.  The unexpected departure of a senior banker in the City of London following allegations of fraud and the resignations of a number of his colleagues has led to widespread…

Surprised?  You shouldn’t be; corporate fraud accounts for a £6 billion loss to the UK economy every year.  Computer crime accounts for at least another £400 million loss and these costs are rising every year.  Add to those losses by rogue traders - well we all remember that, don’t we?

So what can we do about it?  Strategic planning, preparation and execution in key areas is not only recommended but vital to the very being of corporate life.  What are the facts?

Thirty seven percent of businesses will suffer serious financial loss as a result of fraud in this financial year and most will never discover the cause. We can help by conducting investigations which are underpinned by a close association with the Forensic Science Service, an executive agency of the Home Office, and acknowledged as the world leader in its field.  Once complete an investigation gives executives the flexibility to make the right decision for their business and our Investigators are able to operate anywhere in the world.

Due diligence, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships are an integral part of the modern commercial landscape.  The reliability and therefore the success of these deals is dependent on the quality of the information being used by strategists and policy makers.  We are able to gather thorough financial and management information for our clients.

But what about people?  After all commerce is about people and how they interact.  Many companies believe their pre and post employment vetting checks to be rigorous.  It is possible, however, for fraudsters to sidestep the most stringent in-house checks.  Bogus qualifications, previous dismissals, undeclared bankruptcy and even terms of imprisonment can all remain unidentified and the potential for damage is devastating.   If you don’t believe us just look at The Spectator article reproduced on the next page.  We offer a comprehensive solution to this problem.

It is in the field of drug abuse however that companies must acknowledge the debilitating, dangerous and invasive presence of such in the workplace.  Recent Home Office figures suggest that a quarter of people will misuse drugs at some time.  Statistically it’s inevitable that every medium and large scale company in the country has a stimulant abuse problem either in or outside the workplace.  RKE Associates can address these concerns by firstly drafting a drugs policy which is appropriate to the business.  Secondly by providing RKE Associates’ screening service which is geared to providing management information to make rational and considered decisions.  Finally RKE Associates helps by arranging a medical review and devising a plan to assist employers to carry through any decision to a successful conclusion which may well not include dismissal.

It is all too common these days to read of leaks, unattributed yet highly placed sources and copying of classified documents for third parties.  Infiltrating the business premises of competitors with listening devices and camera recording equipment has become a relatively common tactic, particularly within fiercely competitive markets.  RKE Associates sweep teams are able to detect and remove bugs - and, where possible, trace the source.  These electronic countermeasures should be deployed at irregular but frequent intervals since many listening devices may be carried in and out on a daily basis.  Surveillance is not restricted to high-tech gadgetry.  The incidence of electronic eavesdropping devices is at least matched by the incidence of staff who have been persuaded to pass on information which they either see or hear, or information gained through access to improperly discarded waste.  RKE Associates can audit a company’s entire security strategy to identify where competitive advantage may leak away and recommend countermeasures (electronic or otherwise) to make the strategy watertight.

Could it happen to you?
